Renewed Searches For Ayla Reynolds

Renewed Searches For Ayla Reynolds:

http://bangordailynews.com/2013/10/23/news/mid-maine/30-law-enforcement-officials-searching-area-in-oakland-for-ayla-reynolds/

Search efforts are being focused on an area off Hussey Hill Road, McCausland said. He would not go into further detail about the cause of the search. A warden told the BDN late Wednesday morning that searchers are focusing on both sides of Hussey Hill Road.

I don't think it is a coincidence that LE decided to search that area and if I was a betting woman I would bet that LE will also be searching the woods near Oak Hill Dr. at some point in the near future. I am very familiar with the area LE searched yesterday, I lived on Mary Lane off of Hussey Hill Rd. for 10 years. The area searched was literally my backyard. It is densely wooded and there is a swampy area there. Many times when walking into town I would take the shortcut from Oak St. to Mary Lane and bypass Hussey Hill Rd and go through the area searched. It was a popular shortcut for many of the high school and grade school kids because it took at least a mile off of their walk. This was before Ridgewood Estates was being built and it was all just woods and a dirt road then. If you wandered off the path it was quite easy to get lost. I walked the trail at night one night with no flashlight, walking home from my job at Mobil and got lost. I ended up knee deep in the swamp. I stopped walking that trail at night.

(Green is where they searched today, red is the areas they should search-near Oak Hill Dr, the trails where Hussey Hill Road curves and the woods at the end of Hussey Hill Rd)

There are also two other areas off of Hussey Hill Road that should be searched. The trails where Hussey Hill curves that lead out to the Smithfield Rd and the pits behind Davis' Junkyard as well as the dirt road at the very end of Hussey Hill that loops back around to Oak St. Both are huge areas with a lot of woods and a lot of area to explore. On the trail at the end of Hussey Hill Rd someone set fire to a car. The car was there for years undetected. We only stumbled upon it because we took a scenic route on the four wheelers while riding the trail one day.

One of Justin's roommates, my brother in law, also lived in the house on Mary Lane so Justin and the other roommates would know that area well. It was their stomping ground as young kids into high school when they started getting their licenses. It makes sense that LE would search the areas near and surrounding the childhood homes of some of his close friends. It also makes sense that if Justin did harm Ayla or is covering for an accident, he would dispose of her somewhere where he would feel confident she wouldn't be found and tie him back to the crime.

What prompted LE to search this area? Was it really because of a tip they received or because they are starting to hone in on Justin and trying to think like they think he would in covering up Ayla's death? If it was a tip, who would suggest LE search there? What info do they know and what more have they shared with LE?

  1. Tori How far away is that from Phoebes home? And could they walk to that area or have to take a vehicle?

  2. They would have to drive from Waterville it is about 7-10 miles. They could easily park on Mary Lane in the cul de sac and no one would notice as a lot of houses on that road are vacant now and for sale and enter the woods from the trails there or park on Zachary Lane which many drive by every day and don't know exists the way it is set and enter the woods from there. Oak Hill Dr would be harder as there are houses all the way up the dead end road but there are ways around everything and depending on the time of night etc.

  3. I noticed yesterday that Lance had put something on facebook about facebook friends talking shit about his family he said something like he would delete them and hope he never bumps into them something like that. Today it is not on his page. Im thinking maybe friends are starting to talk.

    1. It would be good if people are starting to talk. Those who harmed and hid Ayla have no friends they can trust. They might think they do, but seriously, who would keep your secrets? I hope they say too much to people they think they trust and the truth comes out. Those who harmed and hid Ayla deserve to be found and punished.

  4. For whatever reason the area was searched, it was nice to see a search being conducted.
I was beginning to wonder why if finding Ayla's body is so important to prosecution, why there was no new searches being conducted.
I also wonder why the family and LE doesn't enlist the help of professional S&R organizations.

    1. Good questions, A1. Why did we go all summer with no searches? Why were there no searches this past spring? Why the one search in October with no other searches currently planned. Steve did say the search was decided on after a review of the case. That leads me to believe they are just as much at square one as they were a year ago. Maybe MSP is just as unsure of what happened to Ayla as some of us are.

    2. Maybe the pressure resulted in an internal review, a fresh look from unjaded eyes, who knows? It seems like a reasonable possibility.

    3. I sincerely hope that private searches with professional S & R dogs will be used in the near future in the areas Tori mentioned.

    4. AFA, it is pretty typical in these missing children cases for searches to only be conducted based on tips and/or new investigative information at this point in an investigation. I don't believe that the recent search implies anything in regards to law enforcement's uncertainty about Ayla's demise. Actually, their frequency of searches have followed the same pattern as that of still missing Kyron Horman, Aliayah Lunsford, Lisa Irwin, Cody Haynes, Lindsey Baum, Sky Metalwala, and countless other missing children and adults. Considering that Ayla has been missing for almost two years, and the cost involved (time, resources, and money) it is just a sad reality that after the initial searches and follow-up searches for Ayla, future searches will be less frequent and more focused. Another thought to consider is that the MSP may have been conducting searches that are unknown to the public. JMOO.

    5. I questioned the same thing many times. If LE is adamant about not prosecuting without a body why has there been no searches at least searches we have been made aware of? I do believe LE has searched to some degree but maybe they only announce searches that are impossible to do covertly? There was no way they were searching the area the other day without someone saying they were there, it is too populated. I hope the searches continue

    6. Yes, it is a very good possibility that LE could not avoid this search being public.

    7. Without tips finding Ayla is like searching for a needle in a haystack. Maybe they should try searching along the routes Phoebe takes to work and to be with her significant other.
Phobe's SO is a giant mystery. Why no ststement from the SO like" "Phoebe was so distressed at Ayla's abduction. I hope she is brought home to her family.", etc. Instead dead silence on Phoebe's alibi
boy/girl friend. Just rather odd. if it's a genuine alibi.

But then who knows when this child was "disappeared".? Trista couldn't talk to Ayla after Dec. 8th.

    8. They said during the question and answer portion, that they only let the public know and have press conferences, when it is a large search, and their presence cannot remain secret.

“I would be very alarmed to think that she could be up here,” Will Stevens said.

Roberto Martin built the house in Ridgewood Estates and said he plans to live there. He and his twin brother, Rigo, were allowed to go past yellow crime tape police tied across Nike Lane early Wednesday.

“I hope they find her,” Roberto Martin said of Ayla.

Authorities have said it is unlikely she is alive.

Residents Kim Dessent and David Hachey said they also saw police in the area a month ago and police said they were doing training.

“It’s kind of weird," Dessent said. “Why here? What’s the connection?”

    10. I think the reason Phoebe's significant other has not spoken out is because he is married. It could be a rumor but I have heard the rumor numerous times and from different sides so there may be some truth to it. Ayla may not be important enough to him nor May Phoebe be important enough for him to own up to where he was and give her an alibi. He apparently doesn't want to risk his marriage.

It is good to know they were in the area searching a month ago, they used the training excuse on more than one occasion. It does help renew my faith that they are actively looking for her.

    11. I also heard that the person Phoebe was with is married. That's probably why Phoebe didn't want to say where she was. It's pretty commonly known.

  5. Does anyone know if LE spoke with this man? If so shouldn't they have investigated him? TIA

    1. I'd say that LE did speak with the person that Phoebe was with on Dec. 16th.
I'm sure that they questioned him, at least as much as they did Robert Fortier. Which was only for a few minuets, according to him

" Fortier was interviewed for a few minutes about their drive toward Machiasport, but that was it."

  6. A child was murdered in her home, I would hope to think they questioned her alibi and the man she was. They must have talked to his wife also to verify his alibi. I have no idea why you bring up Robert Fortier, no correlation there.

    1. I would guess Robert was used as an example of someone involved yet not officially involved that was questioned. Not everything is intended as facetious. jeesh
